When Will I See You Again!
What is your favorite song?
Asking me what my favourite song is akin to asking a parent which one of their many children is their most favorite. I have found that over these past decades, songs come and go on the list of favourites. Mostly they have arrived like an Angel, sent in times of great sorrow and again, equally so, the Angel of great celebration.
But among the numerous intimate musical relationships I have shared over time, this one, “When will I see you again,” brings me closer to an emotional tear of great loss. This song conjures up precious memories of youthful jubilations at its place of birth (the night I first heard it played), climaxing with, figuratively speaking, its death, as the years slowly robbed us of its memories, then sadly, realistically, DEATH.
And I will never again be able to share if only to have reminisced, once when we were the children of younger parents and the world was our playground, when not even death itself could have distracted us from our future. Now here I am alone with my memories pulling from this song as if it were the life-giving nectar, the silence, that never seems to answer the question asked, “When will I see you again”
