The Elephant In The Room
Yesterday we witnessed what could only be described as a complete deterioration of our social security blanket long having been held as the sacred bond of peaceful existence in our City, in our Country of Canada. The very tragic unfolding of the actions of a young white male, Suspect Alek Minassian, a yet to be determined motive, resulting in hundreds of lives being impacted by the death, at this time, of 10 innocent souls and several others in various stages of critical medical status.
Upon early news of the accused having used a van as a weapon of death and destruction, it did not take even the time for the news reporters to finished their sentences when MANY CANADIANS on various social media began a litany of accusations, all relating to persons and or people of colour. Some even began blaming the Prime Minister for his LACK OF JUDGEMENT, (irony not lost) of allowing “these immigrants” into the country. It is most important to note, “WHITE FACES DO NOT GIVE US A FREE PASS FROM TERROISM” and there remains no definitive answers at this time that remove this tragedy as a terrorist act.
The carnage we witness on our streets yesterday is the daily life of a wider part of the world. These deaths sadly reminds us of the impact of our involvement when giving our support by way of our political proxy, to impale upon others, death and destruction in the name of democracy. We need to be more conscious of our unfounded and at times irresponsible statements made about nuking them, bombing them and or any other list of inhumane judgments being made from the comfort of our lives.
The recent rush to judgment by Peruvian villagers and their irresponsible mob mentality may have been the very reactionary behavior that took the life of what may prove to be an innocent Canadian man, Sebastian Paul Woodroffe, https://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/canadian-lynched-after-murder-of-indigenous-healer-peruvian-media-1.3896692
With everything we have witnessed over decades of global human dysfunctional irrational hate and distrust, yesterday’s tragedy reminded me that for still too many, our peaceful pretense is less than skin deep. The many polite conversations of me “BEING ONE OF YOUR GOOD BLACK FRIENDS” is insulting. Still with all that has occurred I would like to think that our collective hearts are with the family and friends of the many victims.
And yes, so too we need to make room for the family and friends of the alleged perpetrator, Suspect Alek Minassian; And herein lays the crux of my concerns. As I listened to Chief of Police Sanders, when asked by reporters to respond to the PEACEFUL capture of the suspect, why would your officer, wearing no protective vest, risk his own life when CLEARLY the alleged perpetrator made SEVERAL MOTIONS to take what he CLEARLY intended to have promoted as a weapon, (yes we now know was a cell phone), why did your officer not take more LETHAL force?
And the chief responded, OUR OFFICERS ARE EXTREMELY WELL TRAINED…and I was immediately blocked from hearing or seeing anything else by The Elephant In The Room~ https://www.facebook.com/newsnercom/videos/1044401512393826/?hc_ref=ARTWI5uIUDUrLpULOu5a1_jUZSn-EIt6EfRo28uvJ9SaXqfYIE6zSCAqv6nZTEHgq0I
