The Battle~
In our lifetime many battles we
would have fought
and the very best we can hope for
is to have won more than we’ve lost
With each battle be it victorious
or in defeat
there are many lessons taught
But of all the lessons we’ve learnt
one is to be most valued and it is
Victory comes first from within the mind
not from our decision to be brutal or kind
In the midst of our mid-life crises
when all our friends are far too busily
shopping for their end of life palaces
finding us still fighting to hold on
to our present day middle class statuses
Life leaves us no time for regret
no time for tears
not even the time it takes for an
automatic to change gears
So best we fly with the wind that blows
be a passenger on the last outbound ship
to sail
Take that final seat on the last train
on the rail
For in all decisions made, “all in time
and nothing before its time”
We are in the battle that counts the most
That is the battle that rages in us
each and every day,
it is the battle between our shadow
and that of our ghost
One walks with you now the other struggles
to erase its host
neither of which will ever ask your point of view
so stop asking for permission for the things
you have so very long wanted to do
