In this changing world of ours
the act of friendship often times
means being nailed to the cross
It takes no account of your choice
to walk away
nor the option in choosing when to
stay
It drags you kicking and screaming
to each and every murderous scene
demanding of you to wipe all evidence
clean
It at times become fixated on your
finding someone to blame
while ignoring your master’s shame
To accept this role of being the best of
friends
will have you walking the minefields
of life blindfolded
and if you should ask why
you get only one reply
“It depends!”
Depending on if you wish to be that
friend in the nick of time
that friend that on the most
cloudiest of day will bring the sunshine
It depends on the answers you wish
to hear
Just as long as if you’re asked to say
you simply repeat
“they were never here”
It is often said while you are
your brother’s keeper
you are not their babysitter
But once you accept being a friend
best be prepared to die a Martyr
