Even sleep is too tiring to sleep

I have nothing left to give~

when night falls and I’m wide awake

When I was a younger woman’s child
I fought
It was then my duty
it was the respect
to a mother
having had no fight left
and like her mother before her
and her mother before her
each fighting
for the generation before
Each trying to outlast
the endless task
of reshaping the clothes
bearing the stains
of the tears of those
that fit no more

Each stitch
Each mend
Each needle that in the poorest of light
offend
Each squinting of an eye
reshaping the lines on her face
Each droplet of blood
marks the time and place
of our history that will never
grace the pages of those
most revered
reserved for their hollowed spaces

And we the children
of lesser Gods
having suffered the curse
of immortality
weary and tired
are our garments worn
The natural soles of our feet
our chariots drawn
And when asked
what is your life expectancy
we smile
and calmly respond
We’ve been sentenced to life

…and like her mother before her
and her mother before her
each fighting
for the generation before
Each trying to outlast
the endless task
of reshaping the clothes
bearing the stains
of the tears of those
that fit no more

We’ve always mended the torn
generations have shown us
We can pull
anything that can be drawn
a strong back
and resistance we’ve never known
We rejoice in our history
but never having stopped long enough
to have solved the mystery
of our torn and tattered souls

We’ve learned to kill all dreams
for not having done so
would have been worse
having never slept much beyond
our waking reality
We’ve accepted our lost deity
for so many have perished
having spoken their name
in our mentality
and thus

like her mother before her
and her mother before her
each fighting
for the generation before
Each trying to outlast
the endless task
of reshaping the clothes
bearing the stains
of the tears of those
that fit no more
