I Breathe Best When Holding My Breath
But I wonder
Sometimes even when not breathing
I can still feel the weight of each held breath, each beat of my heart's concern
And then I wonder
If you should die this very day
Having not yet fulfilled your dreams
Is there one person in this world that would fulfill them for you
If not
Then what is so worth the sacrifice of your dreams' fulfillment while you are alive at this very moment
Perhaps your dreams are not your dreams after all
Perhaps the dreams you have so very long cleft onto
have been nothing more than the fulfillment of expectations
in the eyes of those you are still afraid
to dismiss the value of their validation
of your cradled borrowed dreams
having lack the courage to let yours
see the reality of the beautiful daylight
Now I will dream afresh
the dreams that are mine
and
should I die before my imagined time
then I will dream the kind of dreams
that will supersede time where they will always be mine
