At this stage of our lives

At these crossroads
We still have

a narrowing window of opportunity
for us the relish the remains of the day

I could go off into the unknown
I could walk
across the dry burning grasslands
of memories past
Soothing my scorched feet
with the knowledge
of
once we soared like Eagles
eternally entwined
in each other’s fiery volcanic paradise

Or

Like the hummingbird
Hibernating the cold long winter
awaiting the desperately
needed spring nectar
to nourish
just once more
As summer will again pass
and so too
will your love
to lay dormant
awaiting the warmth
of spring’s embrace
