Finally to have spoken
An Immigrant’s Voice~
Without Hesitation
If we're lucky
within one's lifetime
We would have finally spoken
without hesitation
Never having to worry
about the truth of it
The ability to speak
freely
never having to hesitate
over concern about the phonics
The logic
The humiliation of being dismissed
for a birth file of migration
within the dockets of immigration
Never having to select the words of
Their Translation
Forever
having to kill your indigeneity
just to slip quietly into their homogeneity
When one is finally blessed
with the citizenship of the Global Village
Where life is a gift
Not the exclusivity of the privilege
When one can love without hesitation
Never having to be sanctioned by their hue
Nor the vocal tone of those dressed in Royal Blue
And there will be no
Brown Shirts
No Black Shirts
No White Shirts
No Orange Shirts
No Rainbow Shirts
No Purple Shirts
No Reds
No more unscheduled tributes to the dead
There will be but one shirt
The shirt that embraces all faces
If we're lucky
within one's lifetime
We will be able to read this
without reservation
