Taken from the journal of a friend’s earlier travel to their ancestral homeland.

As in the words of the one that penned this piece, “The Burning Horizon”,
“All in life a chance we take
We pave the way for our mistakes
The gambler throws the dice again
And in his hands you have no friends

Awake you have arrive again
To face another day so long
Fade away with the evenings’ sun
Your hopes and aspirations….”

And so it is, the seemingly endless battalions of hollow shadows march slowly back to their barracks of lost aspirations, pained, lacking all signs of ever once being bountiful with life’s blood, their faces showing more the parched sand drift, emotionless, spiritually exiled remnants of a life battle lost, they recoil to their darkened caverns of despair, to again, like a ground hog day of futility;

“All in life a chance we take
We pave the way for our mistakes
The gambler throws the dice again
And in his hands you have no friends

Awake you have arrive again
To face another day so long
Fade away with the evenings’ sun
Your hopes and aspirations….”

As I sat on the front porch of my temporary, vacation residence, I at first, was intrigued at the ritualistic journey of the villagers’ young footballers.
Each morning with the sunrise most if not all would have to travel the route that would march the endless stream of footballers directly passing my front porch. As the days soon turning to weeks it became sadly obvious, the dreams that were awakened with each player at sunrise would equally die at with each approaching nightfall.

I am leaving in the morning not understanding the demons that causes such mass hopes upon the sunrise only to relent into mass dissolution at sundown but more so; I now know I lack the nuances of what would motivate each to do this again, again and again.
